Good morning and welcome back to Hoot State. Camp opens next week for CUSA’s defending champs, and we have a Super VIP guest today for a preseason debrief. Phil Steele, the publisher of college football’s most essential preview magazine, joins us to give his take on the revamped Owls ahead of the title defense. As a long-time Man of Steele dating back to childhood, I can’t believe I just typed those words.
Last month, we already looked at Phil’s projected Kennesaw State starting lineup, typically the only summertime two-deep worth serious consideration. He caught up with Jerry Mack for more than an hour after spring practice, along with nearly every other FBS coach in the process of assembling a magazine that spans 376 pages and roughly a million words. Let’s go straight to the source and see what he thinks about Kennesaw State’s reload, the CUSA contenders, and much more.
This transcript has been edited for clarity, length, and the removal of gratuitous fanboy moments that may have made Phil uncomfortable.
