Caleb Offord likely made some money at Kennesaw State’s Pro Day. Jerry Mack immediately shouted out the transfer corner as a potential Sunday guy after his Owls debut against Wake Forest, the start of a season that finished with second-team All CUSA honors. He’s also the clear headliner from KSU’s on-field job interview that saw Offord and 13 teammates lace up the cleats for a workout in front of 18 NFL and CFL franchises.

Offord ran his 40-yard dash in the 4.50-4.52 range (depending on whose stopwatch) on what seems to be a notoriously slow surface at The Perch, bested any of the CB combine participants in the 3-cone drill, and jumped higher (37.5 inch vertical) and further (10’6” broad) of the Owls who worked out. If you think about the pre-draft process on the same timeline as regular humans experience, Offord’s at least getting a second interview and chance to prove his HC right.

Offord’s 8.95 Relative Athletic Score — a 0-10 scale from RAS Football that compares Combine and pro day measurables with a player’s positional peers — puts him between Bronson Rechsteiner and Travis Bell in the top three of Kennesaw State’s limited football history.

Coleman Bennett, with a 5.09 RAS, was the other Owl with a testing day above the baseline for his position group. The third-team All CUSA running back probably didn’t run the 40 he hoped, but he’s still getting some attention as a potential UDFA pickup and has a visit scheduled with the Seahawks. He’ll also get another shot at boosting his numbers at a local pro day hosted by the Dolphins for players with South Florida roots.

Everyone else finished below 2.5 RAS on the day, and KSU only posted numbers for 5 of the 14 players who worked out (Antonio Stevens weighed in but did not run/jump). Seeing some of the testing data puts into context the quotes from Jerry Mack and his GM Mike Kershaw stressing the urgent need to get more athletic.

That feels like the other key takeaway from this class of pro prospects: KSU’s players and staff truly maxed out what was possible during that title season. You would not look at this batch of pro day results and assume it came from a 10-win conference champion. If I had more time, I’d look up the RAS scores of the rest of CUSA’s departing seniors. That’s a mystery for another day.
